000102: Intro to Craft Sewing

Now that you have the fundamentals of sewing, let's put those skills to new use---and add a few more techniques too! Designed for students who have taken Intro to Modern Sewing First Course or for those who have accomplished those skills, you’ll now learn how to make and apply binding, insert a concealed zipper, add a magnetic snap, and to do basic quilting.  Class projects include a home project -- a toss pillow, a purse, and something fun for your kitchen -placemat's. And of course, more nifty notions!

Over four weeks we will complete three projects:

Zip it pillow - A throw pillow with an invisible zipper closure and binding around the edges.
Techniques covered: Creating a seam with an invisible zipper, creating and using straight-cut binding to finish an edge.

Set The Table Placemats - Dress up your table in a fun way while you learn basic machine quilting.
Techniques covered: Making binding, very basic quilting methodology

Pleated purse - A simple, yet sophisticated purse that can fit all your essentials.
Techniques covered: Learn to create simple tuck pleats, use multiple layers of interfacing, create two kinds of pockets (including a zippered welt pocket), box your corners to give your purse a professional look.

Cost:  $135 for the four-week course. This course requires a book and supplies which will need to be purchased at The French Seam as well. The French Seam provides sewing machines and basic sewing notions to use during the class.
