May 2017 Class Updates

Our NEW May 2017 class calendar is here!   We have a smaller schedule in May due to the Memorial Day Holiday weekend :)  Also, as a reminder...during the week the shop closes at 5:00 PM, so you must have pre-purchased your supplies for any evening classes as your instructors won't arrive until about 5:45.

***ALL of our CLASSES will take place in our brand new sewing studio and store...located at 9335 Castlegate Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46256***

Finally, we  taking class registrations online again, but it is important to note that it all goes through Paypal.  The only email confirmation you should receive will be a Paypal receipt. You must them come into our store prior to your class to pick up your supply list and purchase your class supplies.

Whether you're looking to sew for the first time or are ready to pick back up a long lost habit; Intro to Modern Sewing is the perfect class for you. Intro to Modern Sewing will cover everything you need to know to sew with confidence. From threading your machine to completing three fun and exciting projects! Our expert teachers have years of experience and are able to answer all your questions and help you develop good sewing habits.

Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level but don't think you want to sew clothing? Not a problem! In More Modern Sewing - Crafts we will teach you advanced sewing techniques through three fun, yet challenging, projects. Whether you dream of stitching up tote bags, home dec projects or anything in between; in this class you'll learn all the skills you need to feel comfortable tackling any craft project down the road.

Cost: $ 120.00
In this class you will learn how to construct four bias binding treatments for necklines and armholes in woven fabrics. This is a great opportunity to learn technical skills as they relate to bias binding in garments.

Cost: $ 40.00
In this class, you will learn how to sew, trim and press six corner configurations that commonly occur in garment sewing. Skills Learned include: 1. Right angle, 2. Acute, 3. Curve - double layer, 4. Curve - single layer, 5. 45 degree miter, 6. Odd angle miter. This is a great skill building class for many levels of sewist.

We will be using Linda Lee's (The Sewing Workshop) Measurement Worksheet to make sure you have all of the right measurements for your upcoming sewing projects. This class will work best if you wear a t-shirt and leggings or knit pants...so, that we can help you get the best measurements for you worksheet!

The main compartment is perfect for works-in-progress while the many side pockets organize small tools, patterns & notebooks. It may have been designed with knitting in mind but you'll find it equally useful for a variety of purposes from travel to everyday!

You will work alongside our talented instructor Deb as you learn fourteen easy to sew embroidery stitches in this amazing modern sampler by Rebecca Ringquist of Dropcloth Samplers. This is a fun interactive class and your finished sampler is not only your reference tool...but also a fun finished embroidery piece.

Cost: $ 70.00
Do you have a serger that you have never taken out of the box or have no idea how to thread? We're very excited to offer you the chance to befriend your serger. Over two class sessions we will cover all the basics: threading your machine, adjusting tensions, using differential feed and much more. You'll be finishing all of your projects with a professional touch in no time. So that class time progresses at an even pace for all students, please make sure your serger is in good operating condition. You must bring your own serger, along with four spools of serger thread, the manual, and any tools that came with your serger.

Classroom Policies

Fees and Sign-up:
All class fees are non-refundable. Please make sure the date works for you before signing up. The fee for each class must be paid at sign-up to secure your spot in the class.  There is a class minimum of two students.  If we do not reach the minimum The French Seam will notify you prior to the class.

Cancellations:
STORE CREDITS are only available when your class cancellation is made at least 7 full days before the start of the first class. For example, a cancellation of a Saturday class must be received during business hours, no later than the prior Saturday. If The French Seam cancels a class, students will be given their choice of a refund OR credit towards another class. NO CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE BEGINNING OF CLASSES. No exceptions.  Please mark your calendar with the date your class is scheduled to begin. The French Seam will not send out additional reminders before your class starts.  Unfortunately, due to our busy classroom schedule, we do not have the ability to offer make-up classes.  If you miss a class meeting you may choose to schedule a private lesson for $75 with your instructor to catch up on the class.

Supplies:
Please come into The French Seam before your class to get your supply list and materials.  Receive 10% off of your regular priced purchase when you purchase class supplies from The French Seam.  Some projects require you to pre-wash your fabric so fabric may need to be purchased well in advance.
