March 2018 Class Updates

Our NEW March 2018 class calendar is here!   We have SEW many exciting new classes for March!!  All class fees are separate from class supplies which have to be purchased from The French Seam in order to take classes here. Also, as a reminder...during the week the shop closes at 5:00 PM, so you must have pre-purchased your supplies for any evening classes as your instructors won't arrive until about 5:45.

Finally, we are taking class registrations online again, but it is important to note that it all goes through Paypal.  The only email confirmation you should receive will be a Paypal receipt. You must then come into our store prior to your class purchase your class supplies.

Intro to Modern Sewing will cover everything you need to know to sew with confidence. From threading your machine to completing three fun and exciting projects! Our expert teachers have years of experience and are able to answer all your questions and help you develop good sewing habits.

In Intro to Craft Sewing we will set you on the path sewing all your wildest dreams. This class focuses on the basic sewing skills you need to create fun and exciting crafts you can give as gifts, sell at markets, or just covet for yourself!

Part of our Garment Foundations series, the Scout Tee from Grainline Studios is an excellent project for a beginner.

The Dove Pattern by Megan Nielsen features a loose fit top with french darts, v neckline, curved hemline with beautiful facings, and three sleeve options. Version 1 is a blouse with elbow length sleeves. Version 2 is a blouse with flared sleeves. Version 3 is a blouse with bell sleeves.

The Sheath Dress by The Avid Seamstress is a gorgeous dress that you will want to make again and again! It works in so many fabrics making it really versatile! A perfect project for all levers of sewist as it is so easy to put together. The Sheath Dress is a gorgeously draped garment with a flattering round neckline, elasticated waist and an invisible zip at the back. Your options are endless; make this dress with short or mid length sleeves, with inner pockets or without. View A has stylish inner pockets & View B has outer pockets for a more relaxed look.

Are you stuck trying to decide on the best fabric for your next project? Would you like a better understanding of the different options available and how to use them? Then Fabric Essentials is the class for you. In this class, we will discuss the ins and outs of choosing the best fabric based on the project and your personal preferences. After the class, you will have some time to shop with our instructor.

In this class, you will learn to make two types of bound buttonholes. One is the classic method using one piece of fabric to make two welts. Plus, you will learn to finish the back of the buttonhole using silk organza. The second is a two-sided decorative bound buttonhole with a welt side and a faced side.

In this class you will learn how to construct four bias binding treatments for necklines and armholes in woven fabrics. This is a great opportunity to learn technical skills as they relate to bias binding in garments.

In Pattern Fundamentals we will give you an overview of working with both printed and PDF patterns. We'll walk you through the jargon and symbols and help you read the map to your finished garment. If you've ever felt confused or unable to read a pattern this class will help you build confidence and finish your projects with ease.

Part of our Wardrobe Builder series, Ultimate Wardrobe Builder: First Steps - Fun tops, flirty skirts, and feminine dresses; when working with wovens the choices are endless! In this class, we will fit a basic muslin woven top and skirt using the Woven Essentials pattern by Alison Glass. We will then use those pieces to create a unique dress that shows off your personal style. You will learn the basics of pattern manipulation so you will never run out of options to sew!

These handy bags are perfect best friends to stow and go. Large Becca is adorned with a high-waisted fabric flange (shown in orange) to accent her beautiful style. Add easy grab tabs from leftover zipper bits.

Classroom Policies

Fees and Sign-up:
All class fees are non-refundable. Please make sure the date works for you before signing up. The fee for each class must be paid at sign-up to secure your spot in the class.  There is a class minimum of two students.  If we do not reach the minimum The French Seam will notify you prior to the class.

Cancellations:
STORE CREDITS are only available when your class cancellation is made at least 7 full days before the start of the first class. For example, a cancellation of a Saturday class must be received during business hours, no later than the prior Saturday. If The French Seam cancels a class, students will be given their choice of a refund OR credit towards another class. NO CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE BEGINNING OF CLASSES. No exceptions.  Please mark your calendar with the date your class is scheduled to begin. The French Seam will not send out additional reminders before your class starts.  Unfortunately, due to our busy classroom schedule, we do not have the ability to offer make-up classes.  If you miss a class meeting you may choose to schedule a private lesson for $75 with your instructor to catch up on the class.

Supplies:
Please come into The French Seam before your class to get your supply list and materials.  Receive 10% off of your regular priced purchase when you purchase class supplies from The French Seam.  Some projects require you to pre-wash your fabric so fabric may need to be purchased well in advance.
