November & December 2017 Class Updates

Our NEW September & October 2017 class calendar is here!   We have SEW many exciting new classes (16 exactly)!!  Also, as a reminder...during the week the shop closes at 5:00 PM, so you must have pre-purchased your supplies for any evening classes as your instructors won't arrive until about 5:45.

***ALL of our CLASSES will take place in our brand new sewing studio and store...located at 9335 Castlegate Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46256***

Finally, we are taking class registrations online again, but it is important to note that it all goes through Paypal.  The only email confirmation you should receive will be a Paypal receipt. You must them come into our store prior to your class to pick up your supply list and purchase your class supplies.

Intro to Modern Sewing will cover everything you need to know to sew with confidence. From threading your machine to completing three fun and exciting projects! In Intro to Craft Sewing we will set you on the path sewing all your wildest dreams. This class focuses on the basic sewing skills you need to create fun and exciting crafts you can give as gifts, sell at markets, or just covet for yourself!

Part of our Garment Foundations series, the Scout Tee from Grainline Studios is an excellent project for a beginner.

Don't fear denim anymore! We are teaching you the famous Ginger Jeans pattern in a comprehensive 5 week course. You will spend the first two weeks fitting and then three weeks putting them together.

Are you looking for a simple, elegant top that is extremely versatile? Something that looks good in a bold statement print, but also a simple linen? Then the Hadley Top is your answer!

This kimono style jacket by British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes is a wardrobe must have! We will focus on designer details in this class like French seams, narrow hems and working with tricky fabrics.

In this hands-on class, you will learn the best way to finish a myriad of projects. We will cover necessary hand sewing essentials such as: sewing on a button, attaching hooks and eyes, hemming by hand, and much, much more.

This Sewing Workshop class demonstrates how to make three different decorative bias bindings for fun and fine garments.

In this class, you will learn to make two types of bound buttonholes. One is the classic method using one piece of fabric to make two welts. Plus, you will learn to finish the back of the buttonhole using silk organza. The second is a two-sided decorative bound buttonhole with a welt side and a faced side.

Part of our Wardrobe Builder series, Ultimate Wardrobe Builder: First Steps - Fun tops, flirty skirts, and feminine dresses; when working with wovens the choices are endless! In this class, we will fit a basic muslin woven top and skirt using the Woven Essentials pattern by Alison Glass. We will then use those pieces to create a unique dress that shows off your personal style. You will learn the basics of pattern manipulation so you will never run out of options to sew!

With an ever-expanding option of wonderful patterns to choose from, how do you select the right elements to elevate your style and build a cohesive wardrobe? In this class we will discuss how to identify your personal style and select patterns that are fun and functional. Learn to choose items that will work with your wardrobe and quit wasting time sewing stand-alone garments that you aren't able to utilize. After the class, you will have some time to shop with our instructor.

It's never to early to start holiday sewing! We found a really fun, technique packed project to get you started with the Kismet Trinket Box by Sew Sweetness!

You will work alongside our talented instructor Deb as you learn fourteen easy to sew embroidery stitches in this amazing modern sampler by Rebecca Ringquist of Dropcloth Samplers. This is a fun interactive class and your finished sampler is not only your reference tool...but also a fun finished embroidery piece.

We love ruffle aprons here and have found the Chore Girl Apron pattern by Cabbage Rose. It not only has ruffles…but also has method of sewing that we are excited to teach!

Do you have a serger that you have never taken out of the box or have no idea how to thread? We're very excited to offer you the chance to befriend your serger. Over two class sessions we will cover all the basics: threading your machine, adjusting tensions, using differential feed and much more. You'll be finishing all of your projects with a professional touch in no time. So that class time progresses at an even pace for all students, please make sure your serger is in good operating condition. You must bring your own serger, along with four spools of serger thread, the manual, and any tools that came with your serger.

Classroom Policies

Fees and Sign-up:
All class fees are non-refundable. Please make sure the date works for you before signing up. The fee for each class must be paid at sign-up to secure your spot in the class.  There is a class minimum of two students.  If we do not reach the minimum The French Seam will notify you prior to the class.

Cancellations:
STORE CREDITS are only available when your class cancellation is made at least 7 full days before the start of the first class. For example, a cancellation of a Saturday class must be received during business hours, no later than the prior Saturday. If The French Seam cancels a class, students will be given their choice of a refund OR credit towards another class. NO CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE BEGINNING OF CLASSES. No exceptions.  Please mark your calendar with the date your class is scheduled to begin. The French Seam will not send out additional reminders before your class starts.  Unfortunately, due to our busy classroom schedule, we do not have the ability to offer make-up classes.  If you miss a class meeting you may choose to schedule a private lesson for $75 with your instructor to catch up on the class.

Supplies:
Please come into The French Seam before your class to get your supply list and materials.  Receive 10% off of your regular priced purchase when you purchase class supplies from The French Seam.  Some projects require you to pre-wash your fabric so fabric may need to be purchased well in advance.
