December 2019 January/February 2020 Class Updates

Our NEW December/January/February class calendar is here!   We have SEW many exciting new classes!!  All class fees are separate from class supplies which have to be purchased from The French Seam in order to take classes here. Also, as a reminder...during the week the shop closes at 5:00 PM, so you must have pre-purchased your supplies for any evening classes as your instructors won't arrive until about 5:45.

Finally, we are taking class registrations online again, but it is important to note that it all goes through Paypal.  The only email confirmation you should receive will be a Paypal receipt. You must then come into our store prior to your class purchase your class supplies.

Whether you're looking to sew for the first time or are ready to pick back up a long lost hobby; Intro to Modern Sewing is the perfect class for you. Intro to Modern Sewing will cover everything you need to know to sew with confidence. From threading your machine to completing three fun and exciting projects! Our expert teachers have years of experience and are able to answer all your questions and help you develop good sewing habits.

Now that you have the fundamentals of sewing, let's put those skills to new use---and add a few more techniques too! Designed for students who have taken Intro to Modern Sewing First Course or for those who have accomplished those skills, you'll now learn how to make and apply binding, insert a concealed zipper, add a magnetic snap, and to do basic quilting. Class projects include a home project -- a toss pillow, a purse, and something fun for your kitchen -placemats. And of course, more nifty notions!

Join us for this 3-week learn to knit class and we will have you knitting in no time! Intro to Modern Knitting will introduce you to basic techniques of knitting (cast-on, knit, bind-off, seaming together and explain the fundamentals of knitting terminology. By the end of the course you will have a gorgeous knitted cowl.

Created with a garter stitch and using four colors of artisan printed organic cotton, this color-blocked piece is a go with anything accessory. This is one of those easy, mindless projects that is lovely once finished. Using four colors of the Printed Organic Cotton from Blue Sky Fibers and simple garter stitch, this cowl lets the color in the yarn shine. The cotton is soft to wear and is a great project for a woman or man. The hardest part will be deciding which four colors to choose!

Part of our Garment Foundations series, the Scout Tee/Top from Grainline Studios is an excellent project for a beginner. Create a simple top to complete your ensemble with the Scout Tee/Top. Made out of a light weight woven fabric, it?s great for a casual look or can also be a staple layering piece.

Part of our Garment Foundations series, the Lounge Pant pattern will teach you the ins and outs of sewing a pair of pants. Who doesn't like to be comfy? With an elasticized waistband casing, lounging is easy in these simple pants.

Part of our Garment Foundations series, the Lark Knit Tee by Grainline Studios will add new dimension to your wardrobe. The Lark Tee is modern and flattering to any shape, great on its own but also perfect to layer with your favorite button up or blazer. The pattern comes with four sleeve length options and interchangeable necklines giving you sixteen options in all!

If your serger is still in its box, you're not serging! Let's kickstart those good intentions of buying your serger and learn how you can use it. Students will learn how to thread their serger and how to achieve balanced tension stitches. Bring your accessories so you can learn what you can do with them. Part two of this class is all about getting the most from your serger . Bring your machine to find out how to do a rolled hem, flat lock, and some other useful stitches to help you create professionally finished or decorated projects with your serger. So that class time progresses at an even pace for all students, please make sure your serger is in good operating condition. You must bring your own serger, along with four spools of serger thread, the manual, and any tools that came with your serger.

You will work alongside our talented instructor Deb as you learn ten easy to sew embroidery stitches in this amazing modern sampler by Kiriki Press. This is a fun interactive class and your finished sampler is not only your reference tool...but also a fun finished embroidery piece.

Classroom Policies

Fees and Sign-up:
All class fees are non-refundable. Please make sure the date works for you before signing up. The fee for each class must be paid at sign-up to secure your spot in the class.  There is a class minimum of two students.  If we do not reach the minimum The French Seam will notify you prior to the class.

Cancellations:
STORE CREDITS are only available when your class cancellation is made at least 7 full days before the start of the first class. For example, a cancellation of a Saturday class must be received during business hours, no later than the prior Saturday. If The French Seam cancels a class, students will be given their choice of a refund OR credit towards another class. NO CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE BEGINNING OF CLASSES. No exceptions.  Please mark your calendar with the date your class is scheduled to begin. The French Seam will not send out additional reminders before your class starts.  Unfortunately, due to our busy classroom schedule, we do not have the ability to offer make-up classes.  If you miss a class meeting you may choose to schedule a private lesson for $75 with your instructor to catch up on the class.

Supplies:
Please come into The French Seam before your class to get your supply list and materials.  Receive 10% off of your regular priced purchase when you purchase class supplies from The French Seam.  Some projects require you to pre-wash your fabric so fabric may need to be purchased well in advance.

General:
Please refrain from wearing perfume here in our studio. We keep our classes small and they do fill quickly. All classes take place at The French Seam. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call at 317-841-1810 or come into the shop. We are here to help!
